Step 1. Anesthesia

Medications are administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure. The type of anesthesia used will be determined collaboratively with you and your doctors.

Step 2. The Incision

An incision is made to either remove fatty tissue via liposuction or to reposition/remove the chest tissue

Step 3. Liposuction of fat and/or Removal Excess Skin and Redraping

Excess breast skin is removed and the nipple is moved to a higher, more desirable position. If only liposuction is required the excess fat is removed using a small wand that sucks out the excess fat pockets.

Step 4. Close the Incision - See the Results

Once the chest is the desired size and shape, the incisions are stitched closed. In general, it typically takes three to six months for your chest see final results due to swelling. Results are apparent immediately after surgery but swelling will occur and take time to subside.

You may be a good candidate for male breast reduction if your chest is too big and if you are self conscious about your size or shape of your chest.

Breast reduction surgery takes approximately 1-2 hours depending on the complexity and whether an excision is needed in addition to liposuction.

Recovery time varies between patients but you should be able to go back to work and normal activities within a week of surgery. Strenuous activity and overhead lifting should be avoided for several weeks.

You have a range of surgical facilities to select from when booking with JW Plastic Surgery. We have over 10 hospital and 5 outpatient centers for you to select from. In some cases, your medical history will determine the most appropriate health setting for your procedure.

Most patients in the Midwest select to have their procedure performed at JW Operatory, our Joint Commission-accredited facility on the North Shore, due to the lower price and higher availability of the facility. Patients in the Florida Keys have surgery at Lower Keys Medical Center.

MALE BREAST REDUCTION (GYNECOMASTIA)

While the "dad bod" may be the new "in thing", man boobs (Gynecomastia) can cause embarrassment and discomfort for men. Gynecomastia is a disorder in males that causes an increase in size of breast tissue. Breast reduction surgery via liposuction or direct excision can be done to reduce the size of your chest and to deal with other issues such as poor nipple position or "puffy" nipples that stick out.

CAUSES OF GYNECOMASTIA

Gynecomastia, male breast enlargement, can be caused from several factors. Weight gain, hormone levels, steroids, some drugs, medications, and aging can cause breast enlargement. Generally, gynecomastia is not very serious, but can cause embarrassment or pain.

LIPOSUCTION VS DIRECT EXCISION

Depending on the extend of breast development, liposuction alone may be sufficient in some cases whereas more severe cases in which there is also excess skin and nipple malposition will require direct tissue excision and possibly modified breast reduction approaches.
