The incision is then made at the location where the implants will be inserted and a pocket is created for the breast implants. The most common location for the incision is directly in the crease under the breast (the inframammary fold). Other locations for the incision include the bottom half of the nipple (peri-areolar) or under the armpit (trans-axillary).
A "pocket" is created either above or below the breast muscle to receive and hold the implant in place.
The breast implant is inserted into the pocket either beneath the breast muscle or directly behind the breast tissue. Positioning depends on the type of implant (saline or silicone), the degree of enlargement and your individual body type.
After the implants are securely positioned, the incisions are closed with dissolving stitches.
After the procedure your recovery period begins. Results are visible immediately after surgery but typically it takes 3-6 months for implants to completely settle into their final position.

Who is a good candidate for Breast Augmentation Surgery?
You may be good candidate for breast augmentation surgery if you are looking to increase the size of your breasts or to replace lost breast volume. Breast implant candidates must be in generally good health and have realistic expectations.
How long does Breast Augmentation take?
Breast augmentation surgery takes only 1 to 1.5 hours. However, we ask that patients plan to spend a half-day at the surgical center as the check in and discharge/recovery process add an hour to the beginning and end of the procedure.
What should I expect after Breast Augmentation Surgery?
Recovery from breast augmentation for most patients is short and easy. Many patients are able to have breast augmentation surgery on a Thursday and return to work on Monday as long as lifting overhead is not a part their job function. Expect to spend at least 2-3 days at home recovering after surgery. Your breasts will be sore and your chest will become a bit tight initially but this will resolve as you heal.
What procedures are often doen at the same time as Breast Augmentation?
A breast lift is often combined with breast implant surgery. Breast lift is often required if you have a large amount of breast sag or if the nipple position needs to be corrected.

Are Breast Implants lifetime devices?
Breast implants may require replacement over your lifetime. We tell patients to plan to replace implants every 10 years although this may not be necessary.
Will Breast Implants impact my ability to breast feed in the future?
Breast implant surgery should not impact your ability to breast feed in the future. Implants are placed below the breast issue or under the muscle. JW Plastic Surgery does not use surgical techniques that in any way affect the breast ducts or nipple and therefore should not have any adverse affect on breastfeeding.
What is the difference between silicone and saline breast implants?
Silicone implants have a more natural feel. They are comprised of silicone that does not leak or spread in the rare event of rupture. They arrive completely filled and are inserted into the pocket as such. Saline implants are placed in the pocket completely empty and saline fluid is added to them to provide the desired size. Excellent results can be achieved with both types of implants.
